Area Map

The above graphic shows how northbound traffic seeking to exit I-495 at Woburn Street will be detoured beginning on Saturday, November 7, 2009.  The entrance ramp from Woburn Street to I-495 northbound will remain open during this phase of construction.

Signals at the Route 38 interchange have been coordinated to facilitate the smooth flow of detoured traffic from I-495 north, over the segment of Route 38 under the highway, and back onto I-495 south. Temporary signals at the Woburn Street interchange will keep traffic moving effectively at this intersection during the off-ramp closure.

Traffic seeking to access Woburn Street from I-495 northbound will:
  • Following detour signage, proceed north on I-495 to the exit for Route 38;
  • Exit I-495 and turn right onto Route 38;
  • Take the next left and enter I-495 southbound; and,
  • Proceed to the Woburn Street exit.
  • The entire detour will add only 2.6 miles to any trip seeking to access Woburn Street from I-495 northbound.
Drivers will be alerted to the upcoming detour through the use of posted signage and Variable Message Signs. The detour, as shown above, will be in place for approximately four months.

By detouring traffic, the project team will be able to begin major bridge construction in this area.  This represents a significant milestone in delivering this project on time and on budget.
